Dr. Neeral Shah, MD

Dr. Shah is an associate professor with tenure at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, specializing in transplant hepatology. His clinical research interests include coagulation in liver disease and viral hepatitis. His medical education research interests include the use of technology in the classroom, and the concept of cognitive load. Dr. Shah received his M.D. at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completed training and chief residency at George Washington University. He then finished a gastroenterology fellowship at Lahey Clinic before completing a transplant hepatology fellowship at the University of Virginia. He has an extensive role in medical education; co-chairing the pre-clerkship curriculum at UVA, and serving s as the director of the Academy for Excellence in Education, the GI fellowship program director, and co-chair of the national Academies Collaborative at the AAMC. Dr. Shah also serves on national committees for the ACG and AASLD, and is a co-editor for the DDSEP gastroenterology board review book for the AGA. Finally, Dr. Shah is an alumnus of the Harvard Macy Institute Health Educator program.
