AB In  2012  the  United  Nations  World  Tourism  Organization  reported  that  the  international  arrivals  across  boundaries  surpassed  the  1  billion  mark  for  the  first  time  in  history,  up  from  996  million  in  2011.  This  represents  over  a  71%  increase  in  15  years  growing  at  a  rate  of  3–4%  every  year.  There  were  59  million  international  departures  from  the  United  States  in  2011.  Travelers  may  be  business  travelers  to  large  cities  where  there  are  special  dangers  related  to  urban  travel,  but  increasingly  travelers  are  seeking  out  exotic  locations  as  tourist  destinations.  Pretravel  advice  is  often  an  afterthought  for  these  travelers.  Unfortunately,  travel  can  also  lead  to  health  problems  that  range  from  unpleasant  to  life-threatening  illnesses.
