AB Hospitalist  compensation  can  be  thought  of  as  consisting  of  two  components:  the  amount  of  total  compensation,  including  all  elements  such  as  base  salary  and  bonus  (sometimes  referred  to  collectively  as  total  W-2  wages);  and  the  method  by  which  it  is  earned.  Both  the  amount  and  method  of  hospitalist  compensation  have  evolved  significantly  over  the  last  10  to  15  years.  However,  the  attributes  of  a  desirable  compensation  plan  have  remained  unchanged.
