AB Excess  intake  of  beta-carotene  (hypercarotenosis)  results  in  staining  of  the  skin  a  yellow-orange  color  but  is  otherwise  benign.  Skin  changes  are  most  marked  on  the  palms  and  soles,  while  scleras  remain  white,  clearly  distinguishing  hypercarotenosis  from  jaundice.
