AB The  spirochetes  are  a  large,  heterogeneous  group  of  spiral,  motile  bacteria.  One  family  (Spirochaetaceae)  of  the  order  Spirochaetales  consists  of  two  genera  whose  members  are  human  pathogens:  Borrelia  and  Treponema.  The  other  family  (Leptospiraceae)  includes  one  genus  of  medical  importance:  Leptospira.
