AB AT-A-GLANCEMany  dermatologic  diseases  exhibit  different  manifestations  in  newborns,  infants,  and  children,  and  a  subset  of  skin  conditions  are  only  encountered  in  neonates.Certain  neonatal  skin  conditions  require  special  attention  as  they  may  be  a  sign  of  a  serious  health  condition.The  medical  history  and  methods  of  clinical  examination  in  neonates  differ  from  the  approaches  used  with  older  children  and  adults.  It  is  very  important  to  elicit  a  thorough  maternal  and  obstetric  history  with  an  emphasis  on  maternal  health  and  any  complications  during  pregnancy  or  delivery.The  neonate  has  increased  risk  for  systemic  toxicity  from  topically  applied  substances;  the  risk  is  even  greater  in  premature  infants.
