The  marrow  sinuses  are  exposed  in  this  transected  femur  and  can  be  seen  distributed  among  the  hematopoietic  cords  containing  developing  blood  cells.  Some  sinuses  are  exposed  in  cross-section  and  others  are  exposed,  more  or  less,  longitudinally  or  obliquely.  The  rat  femur  has  a  few  fat  cells,  which  when  transected  are  sac-like  in  appearance  (see  arrow).(Scanning  electron  micrograph)
