TY - CHAP M1 - Book, Section TI - Preface A1 - Burns, Lawton Robert PY - 2021 T2 - The U.S. Healthcare Ecosystem: Payers, Providers, Producers AB - I have taught a course on the US healthcare system for a long time to an MBA audience at 3 different institutions: the Universities of Chicago, Arizona, and Pennsylvania. The MBAs are a demanding set of students—not necessarily interested in academic theory or research, but very much interested in how the system actually works and, more importantly, where the growth and investment opportunities lie. This is not really the academician’s strength; we are not trained to focus on these issues in our research. By contrast, the MBA students frequently have industry experience and often know more about certain topics than we professors do. This makes for a very uncomfortable “information asymmetry” in class.
