PG may be confused with a number of cutaneous malignancies, including atypical fibroxanthoma, basal cell carcinoma, Kaposi carcoma, metastatic cutaneous lesions, squamous cell carcinoma, and amelanotic melanoma (Figure 161-7). It is especially important to send the excised lesion that appears to be a PG for pathology to make sure that a malignancy is not missed.
