EVALUATION OF KIDNEY DISEASE

In the evaluation of kidney disease, measurement of serum creatinine (Cr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and urinalysis (UA) are often done first as they give a good clinical picture of the patient and they are cost effective. Table 9.1 summarizes the various laboratory tests and imaging that can assist in the diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease. Table 9.2 reviews urinary casts as part of the UA.
