Chest radiograph with peripheral infiltrates
Peripheral eosinophilia
Bronchoalveolar lavage to document eosinophils in the lung and exclude other causes
Lung biopsy may be required

Oral prednisone (1 mg/kg/day) for 1–2 weeks and tapered over many months usually results in dramatic improvement
Most patients require 10–15 mg prednisone every other day for 1 year or longer to prevent relapses
