Preface

This first edition of our textbook Patient Management in the Telemetry/Cardiac Step Down Unit: A Case-Based Approach was developed as a unique and practical means to assist physicians-in-training and other medical providers including nurse practitioners and physician assistants who work on a busy telemetry floor. We constructed the text as user friendly as possible by utilizing a personal conversation style.

This book is essentially a user's manual to assist the medical provider in making good clinical judgment quickly. The book is broken down into chapters based on common, genuine clinical cases with a proposed approach for each case.

To help orient the reader and to prevent the medical provider from excessive details, we added key points at the end of each case highlighting the major points throughout the clinical content with the goal of allowing an easy and quick review.

It is our hope that this book will serve as an effective teaching tool in learning telemetry medicine.
