Leonard L. Berry is distinguished professor of marketing and holds the M. B. Zale chair in retailing and marketing leadership in the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. He also is professor of humanities in medicine in the College of Medicine. He served as a visiting scientist at Mayo Clinic studying healthcare service in 2001–2002. A former national president of the American Marketing Association, Dr. Berry is author of Discovering the Soul of Service and On Great Service, among other books. He is a recipient of the AMA/Irwin/McGraw-Hill Distinguished Marketing Educator Award and the Outstanding Marketing Educator Award from the Academy of Marketing Science, and the Paul D. Converse Award.
Kent D. Seltman is the past chair of marketing for Mayo Clinic. Prior to his 16-year career at Mayo, he served as a professor of English and department chair in a 19-year career in academia. Dr. Seltman’s career in healthcare marketing began in 1984 as director of public relations and marketing communications at Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida. Upon completion of an MBA in 1987, he served as founding director of the Loma Linda International Heart Institute at Loma Linda University Medical Center prior to coming to Mayo Clinic in 1992. He speaks and publishes widely on healthcare marketing and branding, and served as the editor of the American Marketing Association’s Marketing Health Services quarterly.
