The transected granular cell adjacent to the fat cell, below and to its right, is a transected megakaryocyte, intimately in contact with the wall of the sinus to its lower left. Yellow marrow can, under prolonged stimulation, revert to hematopoietically active red marrow. In the rat, induction of a hemolytic anemia with a red cell lysing agent can induce restoration of erythropoiesis in the tail vertebra. If a tail vertebra is disarticulated and placed in the rat peritoneal cavity it undergoes, first degeneration, than an ingrowth of vessels, then restitution of hematopoiesis, and then reversion to yellow marrow.
